Captain’s report: Victor T. Mayfair of the time ship Zephyros. We’ve just descended into a dark and mysterious crypt. Lurking in the shadows is something far more terrifying than any ghost. A Lich. Once a powerful sorcerer, now an undead master of dark magic. This creature isn’t here to haunt you. It’s here to control you. Lich are immortal. But they didn’t get that way by accident.

To achieve eternal life, a sorcerer would store their soul in an object called a phylactery. Destroy the phylactery and you destroy the Lich. These undead beings were known for their mastery of necromancy. They could raise armies of skeletons and control them. It will. So if you see one, you’re probably not alone. Liches retain all the knowledge and power they had in life.

Only now they don’t have to worry about little things like, you know, aging or death. Immortal, all knowing and all dangerous.

Lich (sometimes spelled Liche) is an undead sorcerer who has defied death through dark magic, typically by binding their soul to an object known as a phylactery. Unlike mindless zombies or other forms of undead, a lich retains full consciousness and is often even more powerful in undeath, becoming a master of necromancy and forbidden magics. Liches are driven by the desire for immortality and ultimate power, making them some of the most dangerous and intelligent beings in fantasy settings.
